The answer is simple: calculations on the back-end server, to understand why you like what you like and get useful insights, cost money.
Evenmore, the Friends page (to know the taste preferences of your wine buddies) cause a lot of internet traffic between the app and the back-end server.
Unfortunately, the back-end server is not free. Therefore, I have a subscription model to cover the costs of the Insights and Friends page: 1 euro per month, of 10 euros per year. Significantly less than a good wine, but you learn much more about your tasting profile and can share your lovely notes with you friends!
